Council Meeting Highlights – March 19, 2024

  • Christina Kaya sang the Canadian National Anthem.
  • Notice Required under the By-law: A Public Meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at 6:00 PM to consider a Class III Development Permit, File No. DP2024-01, regarding the property municipally known as 425 Fourth Street in order to construct two (2) buildings consisting of thirteen (13) residential units in each building.
  • Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit Dr. Linna Li and Peter McKenna, Board Chair, presented a PowerPoint presentation entitled “Merger Exploration” that provided an update on the merger exploration; provincial public health strategy, LGLDHU’s approach, municipal impacts and next steps.
  • The Mayor Declared March 26, 2024 “National Epilepsy Awareness Day” in Gananoque.
  • Chief Gee informed Council that the Next Generation 911 (NG911) Award of Contract Council Report, has been delayed as quotations were not received in time for Council’s review and consideration. The Town was notified that it was successful with its grant application in the amount of $1,047,528.00, and; all funds are required to be spent by March 31st, 2024.There will be a special meeting of Council on March 28th, 2024 at 12:15PM to consider recommendations regarding NG911.
  • Council Report, Recording and Making Available Council Meetings, was received for information.
  • Council approved an amendment to Sign and Merchandise Display By-law to allow Sponsorship Signage at the Municipal Marina. 
  • Deputy Mayor Leakey put forth a Motion to establish an Affordable Housing Working Group. The Group will consist of eleven (11) members of the community. The Clerk will publish a call for applications for members to sit on the informal working group for a period of one year. The Motion was passed unanimously.
