Council Meeting Highlights – June 4, 2024
- Shannon Lem, Executive Director and Christine Grossutti, Conservation Project Manager, from Frontenac Arch Biosphere Network (FABN), appeared before Council and presented an update on FABN’s current activities, presented details on the current conservation project (30x30 target, and; requested a Letter of Support to work with Town staff to assess whether some municipally owned properties, could qualify for federally protected or conserved status. Council supported this initiative.
- Public Meetings were held for Development Permit Applications. Council had no objection to the following:
- DP2024-10 Class II, permitting an accessory building to provide space for before and after school and summer programs at 250 Wilson Drive provided it complies with the Ministry, with conditions; and,
- DP2024-08 Class III, permitting a commercial parking lot with 15 spaces (including 2 Motorcycle & 1 Accessible Space) and relief in the standard parking space depth to 5.6m from 6.0m, at 122 Clarence Street, with conditions.
- Council authorized the purchase of a municipal sidewalk multi-function tractor from FST Canada Inc., to an upset limit of $188,931.69 (inclusive of the Town's share of HST).
- Council received the Water/Wastewater First Quarter Report for information.
- Council passed a By-law authorizing the Mayor and Clerk to sign an agreement with Kehoe Marine Construction for the procurement of services to complete the replacement of the Gananoque Municipal Marina Main Dock.
- Council approved a $500 draw from the Susan Push Reserve Fund, plus the Town's share of HST, for the Members of the Susan Push Committee and the Heritage Advisory Panel to hire a consultant to prepare concept drawings of the Engine with a new foundation and roof.
- Council passed a Motion of Support for the Toronto Zoo's World Animal Protection Campaign.
- As an additional item, Mayor Beddows requested that Council consider amending the Physician Recruitment Program Policy to add an physician incentive payment in the amount of $20,000/per year for 5 years, for family physicians who commit to practice in Gananoque. Council supported the recommendation and directed staff to amend the Policy to reflect this new incentive.
