Council Meeting Highlights – May 7, 2024

Town News
  • Mayor Beddows declared May 19th to 25th 2024 National Public Works Week in Gananoque. 
     
  • Public Meetings were held for Development Permit and Official Plan Amendment Applications. Council had no objection to the following:
     
    • DP2024-05 permitting an Accessory Shoreline Structure adjacent to 215 South Street, with conditions;
    • DP2024-08 Class III – One Short Term Accommodation Rental at 83 Elizabeth Drive, with a maximum of three (3) bedrooms, with conditions.
    • DP2024-09 Class III – Renovate a second story commercial building at 154 King Street East to accommodate four (4) residential apartments and relief for parking off-site, with conditions.
    • OPA7-24 Official Plan Amendment (passed by By-law) and DP2024-07 Class III, permitting an Urban Hydroponic and Retail Farm (9-15 King Street East), with conditions.
       
  • Council Awarded Several Contracts, approved by By-law
    • Asphalt Maintenance contract with Kiley Paving Ltd., to an upset limit of $690,0000 (inclusive of HST).
    • Concrete Sidewalk and Curb Maintenance – H.V. Construction Ltd., to an upset limit of $690,000 (inclusive of HST).
    • Line Painting – Online Pavement Markings & Maintenance, to an upset limit of $53,030.45 (plus HST)
       
  • A Budget Deviation was passed to allow an upset limit of $62,260.00 (plus HST) for the inspection and contract administration component of the Arthur Street Phase I Reconstruction Project. 
     
  • Council postponed making a decision regarding the Visitors Centre Shelter “Umbrella” Budget Deviation, in order to allow the Municipal Heritage Advisory Panel to review.
     
  • A By-law was passed to extend a Lease  Agreement with MyFM Broadcasting  Corporation for a portion of 110 Kate Street to extend the term to April 30, 2025.
     
  • Council passed an exemption to the  Procedural By-law to begin the regular  scheduled Council meetings at 5:00 PM during the months of May, June, July and August 2024.
     
  • Council passed a Motion to communicate to St. Lawrence Lodge that the Notice of  Objection forwarded to the St. Lawrence Lodge Board regarding its 2024 Budget is upheld, and further the Town supported the Town of Prescott’s Resolution No. 111-2024, dated May 6, 2024, requesting that an Operational Review of St. Lawrence Lodge be completed by November 30, 2024.  
     
  • Emergency Management Ontario (EMO)  congratulated the Town of Gananoque for meeting the Emergency Management program requirements in 2023 in accordance with the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act (EMCPA).
