Town News
  • Council held a Public Meeting to consider two (2) Class III Development Permit Applications:
    • DP2024-16 295 Oak Street to construct a two (2) storey apartment building with sixteen (16) dwelling units and request relief for a reduction in the Lane/Aisle width, parking width, exterior side yard and site triangle. Council, subject to conditions, had no objection to the Application.
    • DP2024-18 375 James Street – Carveth Care Centre, to permit an addition to the existing Long-Term Care facility, seek relief of parking, lot coverage and setbacks including new entrance from North Street. Council approved the recommendation with conditions.
  • The consideration to amend the Procedural By-law - Section 5.3.4. Time of Meeting, to remove 6:00 PM and replace with 5:00 PM was postponed. Council approved an exemption to the Procedural By-law that Council meetings continue to begin at 5:00 PM during the month of September.
  • Approval to sign Agreements with the Gananoque Senior Islanders Hockey Team for the exclusive use of the team dressing room, showers, and team office, and; the use of sixteen (16) spaces on the dasher boards at the Lou Jeffries Arena has been authorized.
  • Council authorized the Mayor and Clerk to sign a Lease Agreement with the 1000 Islands Youth Boxing Club for a portion of 400 Stone Street North for three (3) Years. The 2024 Second (2nd) Quarter Financial Results and Capital Matters pending reports were received for information.
  • A By-law was passed to authorize the Mayor and Clerk to sign an Agreement with the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) for Municipal Funding under the Canada Community Building Fund (CCBF).
  • Council passed a motion supporting the Ministry of Education’s correspondence regarding the Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care (CWELCC) Request for Support.
  • Council appointed Alison Timusk to the Trees and Trails Advisory Panel for the remainder of the Council Term.
  • A By-law was passed to authorize the Mayor and Clerk to sign a Transfer Payment Agreement with the Ministry of Infrastructure.
  • Following a heavy rain event a sink hole opened on Water St, east of the Swing Bridge. Staff and Contractors are working to evaluate the extent of the infrastructure failure in order to determine the best remediation plan.
