Town of Gananoque News for Council April 01, 2025

Town News
  • Doug Bickerton, Rotary Club of Gananoque, presented a Power Point presentation entitled, “Rotary Project 2025 Sidewalk Plaques for Old Portage at Gananoque Falls”. Council approved a motion to refer the Rotary Club of Gananoque to the Heritage Advisory Panel and Public Works and report back to Council.
  • Zane Smith, Collections Manager, 1000 Islands History Museum, appeared before Council to request final approval for the acquisition of new artefacts and the removal of artefacts, from the Town’s Civic Collection as recommended by the Artefact Oversight Committee (AOC). Subsequentially, Council passed a motion to approve the additions and removals. Additions to the Civic Collection include a Shuttlehead spinning and quilting machine, a colour print of the Gananoque Carriage Company, and photographs of the Thousand Islands Bridge Construction. Removals from the Town’s Civic Collection include a Furniture Set, Four (4) Chairs, a Crate, Hutch, and Stove.
  • Mayor Beddows declared the week of April 20th to 26th as “Pitch-In Week” in the Town of Gananoque and invited all citizens in our Town to actively participate.
  • Read for the third and final time, Council passed By-law 2025-025, which was passed to amend the Development Permit By-law for Additional Residential Units (ARU’s) and minor amendments.
  • Council passed a By-law to authorize the Mayor and Clerk to sign a Court Security and Prisoner Transportation (CSPT) Program Transfer Payment Agreement (TPA) with His Majesty the King in Right of Ontario as presented by the Solicitor General in the amount of $80,042.
  • A Scope Change Request to an upset limit of $598,921 (+HST) for the detailed design of Force Main Twinning was approved by Council.
  • Council supported a request from the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Canada to light the Town Hall in “Blue” for the month of September to recognize Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.
  • Councillor Osmond advised that during the recent meeting of the Trees & Trails Advisory Panel, there was concern regarding the requirement for bag tags for curbside pick-up of branches and twigs. Staff advised that there is no fee for brush pick-up of branches and twigs at the curbside. The purchase of bag tags are required for curbside pick-up of leaf and yard waste in paper bags. Note: This relates to the advertised, scheduled spring pick up from April 14 to April 25, 2025. Fall pick up to be determined.
  • Council authorized Legal Counsel to sign a Final Release and Notice of Discontinuance with prejudice on the Town’s behalf regarding a legal matter. A further draw of up to $11,000 for expenses was authorized.
